Holidays can be a fantastic time for relaxation and rejuvenation. However, getting sick while you're away can turn your dream trip into a nightmare! Traveller’s diarrhoea is extremely common. It’s spread via contaminated food and water and can easily ruin your holiday. Symptoms of traveller's diarrhoea include abdominal bloating, cramping and pain, nausea, urgency to go to the toilet, frequent passage of loose or watery stools, fatigue, lethargy and general tiredness.
It is often easier to get sick when you're in a new place as your body hasn’t had a chance to adjust to the food, water and air in the new environment. However, a few simple tips and precautions can ensure you come back from your holiday refreshed and excited, not sick and run down. Remember that prevention is better than cure!

Dietary and lifestyle tips for the traveller...
Remember to start taking Ethical Nutrients Travel Bug for 5 days before you travel and to keep taking it whilst travelling. Here are some other useful travel tips:
- Be careful what you eat, choose the cleanest places possible to dine, and try to find out what you are eating before you eat it.
- Watch what you drink. Water in many countries is not sanitised in the same way as the water supply is sanitised here in Australia. Various bacteria, viruses and parasites are commonly found in the water. It is advisable to drink only bottled water that has an intact seal. Make sure you ask for no ice in your drinks, and use bottled water to clean your teeth.
- Eat fruits that you can peel.
- Cooked vegetables are safer than salads.
- Wash your hands thoroughly before eating.
If diarrhoea persists for more than six hours in infants under six months - 12 hours in children under three years - 24 hours in children aged three to six years or 48 hours in adults and children over six years - seek medical advice.
Always read the label. Use only as directed. If symptoms persist consult your healthcare professional.
